Our blood transfusion department provides blood grouping and typing, cross-matching, supply of whole blood, packed red blood cells (PRBC), fresh frozen plasma (FFP), platelet concentrates, and cryoprecipitate as required. We support all surgical departments, obstetrics, haematology cases, trauma, and emergency patients requiring transfusion. Blood components are available round the clock for all indoor and emergency patients.
Every unit of blood at Mohammadia Nursing Home is mandatorily screened for HIV 1 & 2, Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), Malaria parasite, and VDRL as per national blood transfusion safety guidelines. We follow a strict two-sample cross-matching protocol and patient identification verification before every transfusion to ensure complete transfusion safety and prevent adverse transfusion reactions.
Patients and attendants are advised to inform the treating doctor about any previous blood transfusion reactions or known allergies before transfusion. During transfusion, patients should immediately report any symptoms such as fever, chills, rash, difficulty breathing, or unusual discomfort to the nursing staff. Blood transfusion is only administered on valid doctor's prescription with proper cross-matching and patient consent as per hospital policy.
